Our Programs

Legal Literacy and Civic Engagement Program

Our flagship program, MON’s civics and legal information program, through our community partners, trains community members on their rights in the legal system and on the legislative process, in order to empower them to fight for themselves and for their communities. Our strategies include the use of storytelling and a focus upon topics of Black history and Black women’s contributions to America’s civil rights and social justice movements.

Advocacy Programs

Our work on UBI for DC is our current advocacy program.

Targeted UBI Pilot: MotherUp

A Guaranteed Income Pilot for Mothers Striving To Preserve Their Families. We are currently working to launch a direct cash transfer demonstration project for mothers who are navigating the foster care system while seeking economic security.

Legal Representation

We provide legal services, brief advice and referrals to Washington, D.C. parents seeking to achieve financial stability while facing allegations of child abuse and neglect in Washington D.C.

Mutual Aid

We partner with organizations to facilitate mutual aid initiatives to mothers seeking to preserve their families. These efforts include an initiative to provide household supplies to mothers transitioning to permanent homes from Ionia Whipper Home.
